Hey, I'm new. Name is Tom, from NYC.

here's a pic of my vivarium taken about a year ago. it houses six dart frogs (2 each of azureus, bicolor and tinctorius)

the viv looks a somewhat different today - grown out a bit. Took a few pics yesterday and I'll throw one up here when i get around to downloading onto the computer.

Ooh very pretty! Dart frogs are something I've always wanted to keep. How did you get started? I've never kept any herp before, just fish.

thanks, i love the thing. it illuminates the room, especially when the room-lights are off.

i first saw poison dart frogs hopping around the jungle in costa rica a few years ago. I thought they were cool, so I looked into them when i got back to the states.

i had never kept any herp before either - just aquariums here and there.

turns out, they're easy to keep. the plants, however, are much more difficult to keep alive.

Huh. Everything I've read about dart frogs says they're much harder than any other herp. Tho I guess they're on par with tropical fish, which are way harder to keep than most other reptiles etc.

I've never had them, but I've looked into getting them. From what I've read the hardest thing is getting the tank set up properly and getting them established. If you buy young ones sometimes they can be hard to keep alive. Once you get it all set up and good humidity levels, it's just a matter of keeping them with a good supply of food. I can keep herps and fish alive, but I'm death to plants it seems. :P

yeah, the frogs pose no problem.

but i have killed WAY MORE than my fair share of tropical plants in the past few years.....
